(August 17, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- The Regional Inter-Faith Association will host their second annual “Pack the Bus” food drive.
The community is invited to “Pack the Bus” with non-perishable food items. The bus will be parked between the doors at Walmart North. Mayor Jimmy Harris, City Councilman Ernest Brooks, Councilman Scott Conger, and others will be on hand to accept the donations.
Some of their most needed items are:
-Individual packs os snack crackers
-Easy Mac small individual packets or mini bowls
-Breakfast bars or Granola Bars
-Pop-Tarts
-Fruit- either raisins or fruit cups and must have metal pop-tops
-Ramen noodles
-Chicken noodle soup
-Canned meat (i.e. Ravioli, Spaghetti with Meatballs, etc.) must have pop-tops
-Popcorn
-Drinks- juice boxes or packets of drink mix but no juice boxes that have tops or sides that may be easily punctured
-Individual packets of cereal or oatmeal
This food drive is for the Snack Backpack program. The RIFA Snack Backpack program works to provide kid-friendly and easy to prepare nutritions food items for children who are at risk of going hungry on the weekends.
Last school year, over 560 backpacks were distributed each week to kids at 13 local elementary schools. These children were referred to RIFA by teachers and staff.
