Ricky Yates has rounded third and is heading for home.
Yates, the director of operations at the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex since its inception, announced his retirement on ‘The 180 with Dan Reaves & Sea Bass,’ at NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, today.
“I’ll be retiring effective June 30, as director of operations,” Yates said, “It’s been a fantastic ride, and I would like to thank the staff for all their work, and the community for believing (Sportsplex) would be successful.”
The complex, which is home to 17 athletic fields at 250 BancorpSouth Parkway, opened in the fall of 2006.
“A lot of people said the Sportsplex would not make it … the idea was ridiculous,” Yates said, “We have 97 baseball teams coming in for a tournament this weekend. Go to a local restaurant, and it will be filled.”
Yates said it’s the people he will miss the most.
“Our staff has been tremendous,” Yates said, “I would like to thank them for all their work and the community for believing (Sportsplex) would be successful.
“It’s been a fantastic ride.”
