Ribbon cutting ceremony held at Life House on campus of Aspell Recovery Center

The community got a first look at a new facility that helps women looking for a second chance when Life House was dedicated on the campus of Aspell Recovery Center, 331 N. Highland Ave., Friday.

“We were grateful today to cut the ribbon, and have an open house for our new 12-bed women’s dorm at Aspell,” said Richard Barber, executive director of Aspell Recovery Services, “We’ve served the community since 1979 … about 100 people a day on our Aspell campus.”

Founded in 1979 by two recovering alcoholics, Bob Aspell and Charles Gay, Aspell Recovery Center is a substance abuse treatment center – alcohol and drugs – where residential and outpatient treatment plans are available – as well as transitional housing.

“We’re very grateful to the community for all the support they’ve shown us over the years and especially as we cut the ribbon to double our capacity and serve the women of our community,” Barber said.
