From State Rep. Chris Todd, R-Madison County, House District 73
I am respectfully urging Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti to appeal the recent Chancery Court ruling striking down portions of our state’s firearm laws as unconstitutional.
While some may see an appeal as opposition to the ruling, for me the opposite is true. This ruling is one of the most thorough, well-reasoned, and well-written opinions we’ve seen.
The Chancellors’ and the court did an outstanding job in analyzing the issues and providing clarity.
Precisely because of the strength of this decision, I believe an appellate court will affirm it, giving the outcome even greater weight and jurisdiction as binding precedent here in Tennessee and a reference point for similar cases nationwide. I also want to thank General Skrmetti and his team for their tireless work defending the rights of Tennesseans and for their strong management of this case to this point.
Their continued leadership is essential in restoring the God-given civil rights as our neighbors demand. At the same time, I am calling on my legislative colleagues to move forward with HB 883, which I filed earlier this year, to address flaws in current law and replace them with constitutional, commonsense measures.
By appealing this ruling and advancing this legislation, we can ensure Tennesseans have the clarity and protection they deserve.

I just don’t understand why we have a constitutional right to bear arms why do we even have one law to uproot the second amendment !!! When someone breaks the law and a firearm is involved punish the individual, how many knife laws do we have and have to go through to buy one or a hundred knives ????
