Ivy Renfroe, Brian Dunn, Ryan Scott, Jodie Parrish and Liberty ‘Libby’ Cash became the newest members of the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame, when the 33rd annual event was held at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, Thursday.
Ivy Renfroe, the first graduate from Trinity Christian Academy to be inducted into the Hall, credited her faith, family, coaches and teammates for her success.
“This is truly humbling,” Renfroe said. “It is a night I will remember forever (and), I’m very honored.”
As a pitcher, Renfroe helped lead TCA to three TSSAA state titles in softball in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Renfroe won 110 games – 79 shutouts, 41 no-hitters and four perfect games – for the Lady Lions.
During her four years at the University of Tennessee, the Lady Vols were runner-up in the College World Series in 2010 and 2013.
She threw five no-hitters at UT, and in 2014, she was named the Female Athlete of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
The winningest high school softball coach in West Tennessee history, Brian Dunn coaches at University School of Jackson, where he compiled a record of 819-217 (Riverside High School, Union University and USJ), entering the 2018 season.
Dunn directed USJ to state titles in 2010 and 2012.
At Union, he won three national championships in nine years.
“Tonight is really about thankfulness,” Dunn said. “I didn’t do any of this by myself. The Lord Jesus Christ has blessed me, my father taught me how to work hard, and my wife makes me a better person.”
Ryan Scott, a 2003 graduate of Jackson Central-Merry High School, lettered each of his four seasons he played football at then-Memphis State University.
Recognized as the fourth all-time leading receiver in school history, Scott accounted for 1,527 yards on 114 receptions.
Jodie Parrish was named Union University’s first most valuable women’s basketball player in 1974.
Parrish, who graduated from South Side High School in 1970, led the Lady Hawks in scoring each of her three seasons.
Liberty ‘Libby’ Cash signed scholarship papers with the University of Mississippi after graduating from Jackson High School in 1961, where he was named All-State and All-West Tennessee.
“I’m overwhelmed, I’m just so thankful,” Cash said.
A running back and defensive back, Cash also had scholarship offers from the University of Tennessee, Mississippi State University, LSU, Vanderbilt and Memphis State University.
After one-season at Ole Miss, Cash transferred to Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
He officiated high school football for 30 years in Mississippi.
Former NFL and UT star Trey Teague, who was inducted into the 2008 Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame, was the banquet’s guest speaker.
