(Kingston Tenn) — In the wake of the Oregon college massacre in which 10 people, including the gunman, were killed, an east Tennessee gun store owner is offering a discount to customers who say they are Christian. The offer follows comments by Tennessee Lt Gov Ron Ramsey. “Ron Ramsey had a good point,” said Williams. “Christians need to arm up.”
Gun Shop owner Brant Williams says, people who say they are a Christian will get a 5 percent discount at the store. “I’d like to let Christians know there are businesses out there, even though the law likes to silence us and those that oppose us, but we won’t be silenced,” said Williams.
Brant Williams is the owner of Frontier Firearms. “If Christians are going to be targeted, we need to protect ourselves,” Brant Williams, owner of Frontier Firearms in Kingston, told tv station Local 8. “The best way to protect yourself is with the best weapon available, and that happens to be a handgun.”
In 2011 Williams made news when he offered angry University of Tennessee fans the chance to blast away at Lane Kiffin and Monte Kiffin bobblehead dolls for $5.00 a turn. This was after Kiffin left the University of Tennessee to accept another head coaching job.
In that instance, Williams was criticized because his “Lane Kiffin Bobblehead Shoot” was deemed a dangerous idea on the heel of a Sarah Palin cross-hairs post on the district of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford. Gifford was later the target of an assassination attempt.
Williams decided to offer the 5% discount to Christians after the deadly mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.
Survivors reportedly told authorities that the gunman demanded at least some of the victims state their religion before shooting them.
This is not the first time Williams has made news after a mass shooting tragedy. In 2013, after the Sandy Hook Elementary, Newtown Conn. school shooting which killed 20 children and 6 adults Williams told Reuters, sales at his gun store in Kingston, Tennessee rose about 25 percent after Obama’s re-election. The spike was even greater after the president spoke at a memorial service for the Newtown victims. “From (the memorial speech) until about the week of Jan. 21, we probably saw a 100 percent increase,” .
Williams wants Christians to feel welcome at his store. “If Christians are going to be targeted, we need to protect ourselves,” Williams said.
Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey encouraged Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit.
“While this is not the time for widespread panic,” Ramsey added, “it is a time to prepare. I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit. I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.
“Our enemies are armed,” he added. “We must do likewise.”
