Thomsen Farms has become a hotbed of activity with restaurants, retail stores, medical clinics and office space becoming part of the landscape.
Jeff Brasfield, president of Brasfield Construction Company, spoke with NewsTalk 101.5 FM in a question and answer session about the popularity of the area.
Question: Is there any one thing you can pinpoint that has caused the growth spurt at Thomsen Farms?
Answer: I believe the movement started when FirstChoice Group of Flint Cox and Greg Kelley purchased the majority of the land in Thomsen Farms. I think they kick-started the area by investing their own money and the development has taken off from there. Their willingness to work with potential clients should keep the area thriving.
(NOTE: FirstChoice Property & Development LLC, is a development company located in Humboldt.)
Q: What makes Thomsen Farms unique?
A: The location is perfect for both local and national businesses. The area has already become a diverse area, and I would expect to see that trend continue. For me, it feels like it has a home grown business feel looking to attract the local West Tennessee market for businesses who prefer a high traffic area without the congestion.
Q: How many projects has Brasfield Construction Co. completed in Thomsen Farms to date and would you name them?
A: We built FirstChoice a 10,000-square-foot facility that’s next to First Citizen’s National Bank that CCSI (Computer Consulting Services) leases. We’ve built Advanced Cardiovascular and Vein Center, a 9,800-square-foot clinic; a 14,000-square-foot retail center for FirstChoice on Union University Drive; the Dermatology Clinic (1320 Union University Drive) and The Bank of Jackson, which fronts Oil Well Road.
Q: How many projects does Brasfield Construction Co. have under development in Thomsen Farms, and would you name them?
A: We’re building the new Mulligan’s Restaurant, which will be 5,000-square-feet. We’re also building a 12,000-square-foot medical office building for Tennova Healthcare, and a 9,000-square-foot building for BRG Reality Group. Its tenants will be Steak Escape, Blue Coast Burrito, Lazy Suzy’s Boutique and Total Fitness Kickboxing.
Q: What can we expect in the future in Thomsen Farms?
A: Due to the location, I think you will continue to see a diverse array of national and local businesses looking to build in the area. There are still a number of acres within the development, so you might even see some residential units. The area has so much potential, it is hard for me to guess what might come next.
