President Obama Visits Nashville, Offers Condolences

(January 30, 2014) Nashville, Tenn.- President Barack Obama visited Tennessee today to reiterate some of his points from the State of the Union Address.

In his speech today, he also addressed the shooting death of a student at McGavock High School, where he was speaking. 

 

According to the Associated Press, “Authorities say the off-campus shooting happened Tuesday when a 17-year-old was playing with a pistol. It discharged a bullet that struck his 15-year-old friend in the face.”

 

President Obama called the incident “heartbreaking,” and told attendees that he and the First Lady are praying for the families involved. 

 

In his remarks, President Obama discussed unemployment and said the nation has to, “make it easier for folks to work their way into the middle class.”

 

He also reemphasized one of his themes from the State of the Union, that he will not wait for Congress to act.
