On Sept. 19, around 7:15 a.m., Jackson police responded to a report of a school crossing guard who was struck by a vehicle at North Parkway Middle School. Based on the investigation, the crossing guard was standing in the left turn lane of the school zone and in the process of stopping traffic. A vehicle was traveling eastbound on North Parkway and entered the left turn lane to drop off a student. The driver then struck the crossing guard. The crossing guard was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. She was treated and released around 9:30 a.m.
The investigation indicates that sunlight in the driver’s eyes was a contributing factor. The driver was not cited for anything related to striking the crossing guard but was issued a citation for no proof of insurance.
