(July 2013) Jackson TN – Jackson police are investigating the suspicious death of a 5-monthold girl. Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, police and EMS were called about an unresponsive infant inside an apartment in the Allenton Heights public housing complex.
Officers arrived and were told by the mother that her child was not breathing.
Moments later the ambulance arrived and rushed the infant to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Around 9 p.m., Kailynn Hicks was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Based on the preliminary investigation, Hicks suffered head trauma.
Investigators interviewed the mother and learned that the infant had momentarily been left in the care of her 5-year-old sister.
Hicks' body has been transported to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services was notified and is assisting in the investigation.
Investigators have briefed the District Attorney General about the details of the investigation thus far. No arrest has been made.
