Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jackson police responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of Clayton Street and Bemis Lane. Officers found 32-year-old Jesse Palanki, of Jackson, lying in the roadway with serious injuries.
The investigation determined that Palanki and his girlfriend, 31-year-old Rebecca Whitnel, of Dyersburg, had been arguing. The dispute resulted Palanki pushing Whitnel out of a moving car. Palanki then stopped the car, got out and walked away.
Whitnel then got in the car, accelerated toward Palanki and struck him.
They both were transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Whitnel was treated for minor injuries and released to police custody. She was transported to the Madison County Jail.
Whitnel was arraigned Thursday at 8 a.m. in Jackson City Court on a charge of aggravated domestic assault. Whitnel's bond was set at $10,000, and she was court ordered to have no contact with Palanki as a condition of bond.
Whitnel's next scheduled court date is August 19 at 1:30 p.m. in City Court. As of Wednesday afternoon, she remained in custody at the Madison County Jail.
Palanki was admitted for his injuries and is currently in stable condition at the hospital. He is being guarded by police.
Upon release Palanki will be transported to the Madison County Jail and booked on a charge of simple domestic assault.
