Plane crash in Haywood County – 2 dead

According to BrownsvilleRadio.com, authorities, searching since late last night, found the crash site of a small airplane early this morning. The wreckage was spotted by a THP helicopter about 7:30 a.m.

Sheriff Billy Garrett Jr. said the FAA told him the airplane was last seen on radar west of Brownsville over an area in the vicinity of Carl Brummett Road and Highway 54 West.

The Piper PA/28, is a four-seat single engine airplane. Sheriff Garrett confirmed that two people, both from Texas, were aboard. Neither survived.

According to online tracking services, the flight left Pearland, Texas near Houston and was bound for Murray, Kentucky.

No one knows why the plane crashed, but the weather at the time the FAA notified local authorities, about 10pm, included freezing conditions aloft, high winds and some rain.

The name of the pilot is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is sending investigators to the scene.
