JACKSON Tenn (April 13, 2015) – Jackson’s first Pecha Kucha night took place Friday at The Co. Nearly 100 people attended the event as Jackson residents used the opportunity to talk about their ideas, designs, and showcase some of their talents.
The night included presentations about the art therapy program at the Star Center by Janie Giles, an employee from the Jackson Clinic talked about their life saving hyperbaric chamber, two Liberty Tech High School students, RJ and Luke, presented information about their hands on Marketing Academy program as well as many more.
Program coordinator Meredith Callis said that she got the idea for a Pecha Kucha night after attending one in Chattanooga TN. Callis said that she believed Jackson would be a great place for creative people of the area to get together and share their ideas. There are three more of these events planned for this year in Jackson, the dates have not yet been decided.
Pecha Kucha was developed 12 years ago by two Tokyo architects that wanted a way for other designers to showcase their ideas in a short concise manner. Jackson became the 828th city to host this event, about 12 other cities around the globe were hosting a Pecha Kucha night on Friday as well.
Pecha Kucha is a Japanesse phrase meaning “chit chat.” Presenters present their idea using 20 images that each appear for only 20 seconds. This gives them 6 minutes and 40 seconds to make their presentation. For more information visit www.pechakucha.com.
