It took a multitude of healthcare professionals, but Benjamin Pratt, paralyzed for 15 years, got his desired wish when he was baptized in the swimming pool at the LiFT Wellness Center, Thursday.

At age 14, Benjamin and a friend were crossing the U.S. Highway 45 Bypass in Humboldt, and were struck by an automobile.

His friend died.

Benjamin, who is being cared for by his mother, Sherry, expressed his desire to be baptized, but she knew assistance would be needed.

She contacted The Foundation, and with the help of the Medical Center EMS, the baptism of Benjamin Pratt was held.

“This is just fantastic,” Sherry Pratt said, “It’s something we’ve looked forward to for many years, and it finally happened.

“It’s been a great concern of Ben’s – he wanted to be baptized.”

Sherry said the day must have been the will of God when Ben accepted Christ as his Savior.

“The ones in the water with him said he smiled, so he’s very happy,” Sherry said, “He hasn’t slept in a week – looking forward to (baptism). It’s been exilerating.”

The baptism was performed by Randy Kea, minister of the Humboldt Church of Christ, where the Pratts are members.

The event was highly choreographed to protect Ben’s well-being, due to his having a tract for breathing.

“We were honored to be asked to help Benjamin achieve his spiritual goal,” stated Paul Spencer, Operations Manager of Medical Center EMS, “EMS was there to render medical aid when the accident happened.

“With that being a horrible experience in his life, it was touching to our staff to be able to assist him in this wonderful day.”
