Motorists can still gain entrance to the Old Country Store by turning left off Casey Jones Lane at the Railroad Museum at Casey Jones Village.
A 40-plus year-old culvert collapsed on part of a gravel parking lot across the street from Casey Jones Village causing a sinkhole, January 2.
Clark Shaw owner/CEO of the Old Country Store & Casey Jones Village said the City of Jackson is making sure Casey Jones Lane – a city street – is completely secure in anticipation of heavy rain expected this weekend.
“They have done an outstanding job responding immediately to protect this city street and the lives of the general public,” Clark said, “I am told that a short pipe has been ordered and will be laid at the street and covered, to absolutely ensure that no damage occurs to the street itself.
“As soon as that’s done, the City will reopen this (closed) section of Casey Jones Lane.
“In the meantime, a large portion of the street is open giving the public full and very safe access to Casey Jones Village and our friends at Comfort Suites Hotel.
“For now, we plan to fence off the area, and in coming months, secure bids to refill the hole itself.”
