The UnderDawg story will continue for at least another game in The Basketball Tournament.
Jaylen Barford, a graduated of South Side High School, who played collegiately at Arkansas, had 29 points and 12 assists to lead five Jackson players in double figures, as the No. 8 seed captured the Memphis region with a 102-83 win over Louisiana United.
Coached by Dexter Williams, the roster is mostly comprised of players from the Jackson area.
Their journey in Memphis began with a 59-50 win in an ugly slugfest against Gael Force, in which it appeared neither team could buy or have the credit score to rent a bucket.
In its second game, Jackson had 55 points by halftime and couldn’t be stopped from raining threes the entire game. Barford was one of five players on the roster to knock down at least two threes, as Jackson finished 15-of-28 from beyond the arc.
Jackson will move on to play the winner of the Wichita region in the quarterfinal round at 8:30 p.m., Thursday.
