Over $10,000 Stolen by Madison County Clerk’s Office Employee

JACKSON, Tenn.—According to a release issued by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department today, a bank bag that went missing from the county clerk’s office just before Christmas was stolen by an employee.

“On December 24, 2014, the Madison County Clerk, Fred Birmingham, reported the theft of a missing bank deposit from the office safe. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and conducted an investigation into this theft. The investigation revealed that the bank bag containing checks and cash was stolen by an employee in the clerk’s office.”

Ashley Nicole Melton, 25, of Medon TN was formally charged with Theft of Property over $10,000 and tampering with evidence.

Also charged with Theft of Property over $1,000 was Brandon Lee, 22, of Medon.

Arraignment for the pair has been scheduled for January 9 in General Sessions Court.
