SAVANNAH, Tenn. (AP) — Officials have found a burned body in the charred remains of a vacant Savannah building.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tells media outlets that the burned remains of the unidentified person were found Thursday by the Savannah Fire Department and Savannah Police Department.
Interim Savannah Police Chief Terry Hosea says the fire started in an old barn Wednesday night. He says authorities are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
Hosea says the barn was frequented by homeless people.
The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland says the autopsy is expected to provide additional information about the person’s death.
