From the Jackson Police Department
Jackson, TN – On Thursday afternoon, at approximately 3:28 p.m., the Jackson Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a road rage incident on the 45 Bypass near Carriage House. The caller, a male motorist, reported that another male driver had pointed a handgun at him while driving.
The victim remained on the line with 911 and provided real-time updates on the suspect’s location, allowing officers to respond quickly. Based on the information provided, officers located and conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle in front of 719 Old Hickory Boulevard.
As officers approached the vehicle, they observed the suspect armed with a handgun. Moments later, officers heard a gunshot from within the suspect vehicle. In response, one officer discharged their service weapon.
The suspect was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, TN and is currently in critical condition.
The officer involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave as standard procedure during the course of this investigation.
At the request of District Attorney Jody Pickens, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is now leading the investigation into this incident. All further inquiries should be directed to the TBI.
