‘Nothing he does athletically surprises me’ – North Side’s Javonte Smith earns 101.5 FM’s football ‘Player of the Week’

Javonte Smith definitely had a hand in North Side High School’s 49-0 win over Liberty, Oct. 1, claiming the Commissioners’ Cup for the fifth time in the process.

Javonte, a senior and University of Tennessee commit, scored three touchdowns – a 72-yard reception, a pass interception return for 40 yards and a 56-yard punt return – helping the Indians improve to 5-2 overall.

For good measure, he also added six yards on one rushing attempt.

The Commissioners’ Cup has been awarded annually since 2018 to the team that compiles the most wins in games between the four public high schools – North Side, Liberty, JCM and South Side.

North Side entertains Giles County at 7 p.m., Friday.
