The Jackson Underdawgs almost achieved the unthinkable in their second-round game of The Basketball Tournament at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky, Thursday.
Playing a team comprised of former University of Louisville players, Jackson was eliminated following its 79-74 loss.
“No morale victory,” Dexter Williams said, “We put up a good fight, and the game could have gone either way.”
Dexter Williams is the head coach of the Underdawgs and serves as director of athletics at Trinity Christian Academy.
Jackson’s Chris Jones, who played his college basketball at UofL, had a game-high 25 points.
“If you remember, Chris is originally from Memphis,” Dexter said, “He played his high school basketball at Melrose, and he was ready for last night’s game.”
Jordon Varnado added 14 points (six rebounds) and Tevin Glass (Wichita State, ETSU) had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Underdawgs were outrebounded 43-38.
Russ Smith (UofL) had a team-high 20 points for The ‘Ville.
