The staff and management of Wireless Group owned radio stations News/Talk 101.5 FM (WNWS-FM) and 95.3 Brownsville Radio (WNWS-AM/WTBG-FM) concluded a staff meeting Friday afternoon providing staff members clear instructions about how operations will continue in the event the Covid-19 Virus seriously threatens West Tennessee and its employees.
“Equal to the well-being of our staff, our highest priority is making sure that our listeners and digital followers remain well-informed,” Wireless Group President Carlton Veirs said.
Friday’s meeting concentrated on maintaining healthy protocols within the stations and how news will be broadcast should problems escalate and/or if staff members become sick.
“Both of our radio stations are well-equipped allowing us to control the operations remotely if needed,’ Veirs said, “We do numerous out of studio broadcasts every week—remotes—so we are well practiced at off-site broadcasts. We have enough remote broadcast equipment to equip every on-air staffer.
“Wireless Group’s core business is news, making the radio stations uniquely positioned to provide coverage using local assets that include radio reporters and reporters from its newspaper, the Brownsville Press. Keith Sherley and David Thomas head up News/Talk’s news gathering efforts and are well-connected with West Tennessee’s news sources.”
In addition to around the clock news broadcasts, Veirs said the stations will publish updates on wnws.com, brownsvilleradio.com and on Twitter and Facebook.
More than 30,000 people follow the radio stations’ social media and about 50,000 access wnws.com and brownsvilleradio.com weekly.
Over 10,000 people subscribe to Breaking News Text Alerts. The alerts are available free at wnws.com or brownsvilleradio.com.
The radio station’s audio is also available on both Internet sites, by downloading mobile apps and via Amazon’s Alexa.
