DIDD provides new training to care for patients

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities is providing new training for family members of the disabled as well as their caregivers and the medical professionals who treat them.

Participants watch short videos that include clips depicting simulated medical appointments.

The training covers topics like communication, challenging behavior, mental and physical health, over-prescription of medications, and alternative treatments that do not use prescription medication.

The training is intended to improve care for the intellectually and developmentally disabled. It was developed in partnership with TennCare and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center.
