Needham Goodwin, a senior and two-way starter for the Trinity Christian Academy Lions, is the NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM & WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week.’
Presented by Mann’s Wrecker and AJD Metal Designs.com, Needham – a senior running back and defensive back – helped lead the Lions to their first win of the season, a 30-27 win over Tipton-Rosemark Academy.
Needham carried the ball 20 times for 217 yards, scored one touchdown and added two- 2-point conversions.
He completed one pass for 23 yards on a fake punt, and added five tackles from his defensive back position.
“Most of the credit goes to the younger guys on the O(ffensive) line that stepped up blocked,” Needham said, “They are the ones who got the award for me … without them I really would not have been able to have done much at all – a few of the freshmen and sophomores made it possible.”
Coaches quote:
“Needham had a great game against TRA, Blake Butler said, “It was a total team effort, but a lot of the team effort was Needham getting extra yards for us – tremendous yards after contact and finishing forward. He’s done a great job for us carrying the ball and playing defense as well – contributing some tackles there.
“When you look at his rushing stats – going over 200 yards … it’s a huge deal in terms of our effort and winning the game – but you don’t run the ball that well without a total team effort – but it also takes great individual effort as well.
“We’re proud of him and proud of our team for getting the win and starting off 1-0 in region play.”
