There are literally no stones being left unturned at the construction site of BlueOval City at the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County.
Detroit-based Walbridge is the lead contractor for the new complex, and a nationally known retailer, Lowe’s – is setting up shop on the 3,600-acre campus.
“We knew we would need instantaneous requests for materials and delivery and we have a trailer on site where a representative from Lowe’s takes the order and gets it here the same day – usually within an hour,” said Donna Langford construction manager for BlueOval SK Ford Land, “It’s not for the public, it’s for the construction site.”
Langford also said there are three concrete plants on campus and “two great partners – United Rentals and SunBelt Rentals – it’s a great service because our contractors don’t have to go off-site looking for rental equipment.”
By the numbers:
- The nearly 6-square-mile mega campus will create approximately 6,000 new jobs when production begins in 2025.
- The $5.6 billion electric-vehicle manufacturing complex in Haywood County is the largest factory project in the history of the 120-year automobile manufacturer.
- The largest Ford Motor Company plant – it’s the Kansas City Assembly Plant, which originally opened for military production in 1951. Ford’s Kansas City plant produces more units than any other automobile manufacturing facility in the United States.
- To prep the Megasite for BlueOval City, about 4.6 million cubic yards of soil was moved – enough to fill the Hoover Dam twice.
- It’s also placed 370,000 tons of stone, which would weigh more than 1,600 Statutes of Liberty.
- BlueOval City will consist of 10 million-square-feet, which is equivalent of 100 Walmart Supercenters.
