JACKSON Tenn (March 8, 2015) — On Saturday the NAACP held its annual race relations summit “Securing Our Future: Mind, Body and Spirit,”
The program included teachers and principals from around the state participating in a panel discussion on common core education standards. Other discussions centered around childhood obesity. Tennessee is listed third in the nation for childhood obesity.
Saturday night’s featured speaker was the Rev. Russell Morrow, pastor at Forest Heights United Methodist Church. Morrow talked about growing up during the Civil Rights era.
The event was held at the Double Tree hotel, Jackson, TN. The evening concluded with dinner honoring Jackson businessman Sidney Wilson Jr.. Gloria J. Sweet-Love, president of the Tennessee State Conference presented Wilson with the William M. Deberry Community Service.
