Students began checking into Carney-Johnston Hall on the campus at the University of Memphis Lambuth, Friday.
“We have 90 rooms at Carney-Johnston Hall, so full capacity is 180,” Emily Pilant said. “Check in continues from noon until 4:30 p.m., Saturday.”
A graduate assistant, Emily is on staff and will reside in Carney-Johnston Hall with three resident advisers and one assistant coordinator.
Carney-Johnston Residence Hall, once the most popular place for Lambuth University students to live, reopened in fall 2013.
The historic building, located on the quadrangle between Wilder Student Union and the Athletic Building, offers single and double rooms with suite-style baths.
Carney-Johnston’s recent upgrades include new fire safety systems, heating and cooling improvements, and new paint and carpet in every room. The building is ADA accessible.
In addition to separate floors for male and female residents, study lounges on the second floor offer 24-hour access to a quiet study area.
A large living room on the first floor can be used for social activities for Carney-Johnston Hall residents.
Classes begin August 28, and the university is expecting an enrollment of 1,000 students.
