Mother Accused of Leaving Toddler in Hot Car

August 22, 2014

Brownsville Police have charged a woman with reckless endangerment after she allegedly left her three-year-old daughter unattended in a parked car.

Ebony Gray, 27, has been charged with reckless endangerment. Gray has a Brownsville address.

Officers answered the call just before 2pm Thursday. A passerby noticed the child in the car parked in the Bradford Square Shopping Center Parking lot. Police responded quickly and say they found the toddler strapped in a car seat. The vehicle was not running and two of the four windows were “half-way down” according to the police report.

Investigators say the temperature was 92 and the heat index was approximately 101 at the time they responded to the call.

The investigation indicates the child was unattended for at least five minutes but officers are reviewing shopping center surveillance videos to determine the time more precisely.

The toddler was placed in the custody of her grandmother.
