Mickey Marley selected for induction into TSSAA High School Sports Hall of Fame

If there was one word Mickey Marley could use to define his feelings after he learned he had been selected for induction into the 2019 TSSAA High School Sports Hall of Fame – it would be appreciation.

“Very appreciative,” Marley said, “I was teaching a P.E. class, and someone told me the TSSAA was on the phone, and I was taken aback. Nobody does anything of any significance on their own.

“I’ve had outstanding coaches to work with, and I’m very blessed to have this happen.”

Marley, a teacher and head football coach at Rosenwald Middle School in Trenton, was the head football coach at University School of Jackson for 27 years, where he compiled a record of 245-91.

The Bruins played for the TSSAA state championship five times.

USJ also made 10 state semi-final appearances, and played in 15 quarterfinal games.

Marley was also the dean of students, and served as athletic director from 1994 until 2002.

Marley, who received numerous coach of the year honors, is a member of the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame, the Franklin High School Sports Hall of Fame, and the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Marley is one of nine people who will be inducted into the TSSAA High School Sports Hall of Fame when the annual luncheon is held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro, Saturday, April 13.
