Memphis Man Charged in Drive-by Shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Prosecutors say a 23-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in a drive-by shooting outside a nightspot in Memphis.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office said Wednesday that Tony Bruins is accused of leaning out of a moving car and firing into a crowd of six people as they were leaving the Deuces Bar and Lounge on Nov. 29.

Authorities say 22-year-old James Rooks Jr., was shot and killed. Another person in the parking lot was wounded in the leg.

Bruins also was indicted on five counts of attempted first-degree murder and five counts of using a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.

Online court records did not show booking or lawyer information for Bruins late Wednesday afternoon.
