In ONE day’s time – Memphis Safe Task Force officers made 51 arrests, recovered 7 illegal guns, Thursday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Safe Task Force on Thursday executed 51 criminal arrests and recovered seven illegal firearms.

 

Of note:

 

Demario Anderson, 35, was arrested in St. Louis, Missouri, on a collateral lead for a homicide in Shelby County. On November 8, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force initiated a fugitive investigation into Anderson after he was charged by Shelby County for second- degree murder.

 

On Nov. 19, 2025, TRVFTF investigators developed information that Anderson was in St. Louis and sent a collateral lead to the USMS in Missouri for his apprehension. On Thursday, USMS in Missouri located and arrested Anderson at a residence in the 1200 block of June Avenue in St. Louis and transported him to the St. Louis County Jail, where he awaits extradition back to Shelby County.

 

Joshiwa Penrod, 35, was arrested in Germantown for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers conducted an interdiction traffic stop based on information obtained during an active DEA investigation. Following consent to search the vehicle, officers recovered quantities of suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, THC products, and a Taurus .38-caliber revolver.

 

Penrod was transported to county jail.

 

Decorian Young, 31, was arrested in the 5800 block of Ashridge Place for possession with intent to distribute. Members of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Drug Response Shelby County (DRT-SC) executed a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation targeting Young. He was taken into custody at approximately 9:30 a.m., without incident.

 

Officers recovered a Glock 19 9 mm handgun and approximately 45 pounds of marijuana from the residence during a subsequent search of the residence.

Ongoing manhunt: The MSTF is asking the public’s help and, along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, offering a combined reward of up to $32,500 for information leading to the capture of a man suspected of shooting a Memphis Police Department officer Feb. 27 during a traffic stop.

 

Danell Maxwell, 40, of Memphis, is wanted for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, per an arrest warrant issued Feb. 28.

 

He was added to the Tennessee Most Wanted list the same day.

 

Maxwell is Black, stands 5 feet 10 inches and weighs approximately 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and an orange and green reflective vest. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Since the launch of the Memphis Safe Task Force initiative, officers have made 8,038 arrests, including 51 for homicide, 888 for controlled substances, 714 for firearms violations, and 101 for sex offenses. Of those arrested, 224 were juveniles and 835 were known gang members. The task force has seized 1,332 illegal firearms. These enforcement actions reflect a sustained commitment to reducing violent crime and removing dangerous weapons from Memphis neighborhoods.

 

The Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF), a multi-agency initiative, was organized in September 2025 to combat violent crime in Memphis. It is composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as the Tennessee National Guard, and focuses on arresting violent criminals, clearing warrants, seizing firearms, and locating missing children. Since the operation began, the MSTF has located 150 missing children.

 

This operation reflects the MSTF’s commitment to coordinated enforcement efforts and its mission to identify, apprehend, and hold accountable those who pose a threat to public safety.
