Megasite appeals update

We told you last week that appeals to the state’s decision to grant the wastewater permit for the megasite have been filed.

The process and the reasons three Tipton County residents expressed their discontent is becoming clearer.

The Brownsville Press, obtained an exclusive interview with Adrienne Heinzelman, one of the protestors.

Heinzelman is a resident of Drummonds, Tenn., and has a background in environmental work. She said that overall, she feels TDEC is rushing the permit process to “attract big industry.”

The state has not issued comment on the filings, but Heinzelman said her appeal had been “recognized by the board” and that she was contacted by TDEC lawyers. “The next step at the end of this 30-day window is that all of the appeals will be compiled and they will be presented to an ALJ (Administrative Law Judge), and at that point, the judge will make a determination on if there’s a case,” she commented.

More details and comments from Henzelman appear in today’s edition of the Brownsville Press
