From Steve Smith, executive director McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport –
The Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority made it official at Monday’s December regular board meeting by announcing unanimous support for a change in airline service.
A letter in support of San Francisco, California based Boutique Air was sent to the USDOT supporting the change that includes increased daily service to Atlanta, Georgia and Pensacola, Florida.
If approved by the Department of Transportation the new service will begin in June of 2021.
Current provider Air Choice One has provided airline service for the past 5 1/2 years to Atlanta and St. Louis.
Air Choice One’s service will end in June, 2021.
Executive Director Steve Smith said Monday the airport reviews “under performing routes” every two years and the demand for a vacation destination was a main driver in the decision.
If approved by USDOT Boutique Air will fly the PC-10 aircraft cutting almost 30 minutes off the time to fly to Atlanta.
