One week remains before the City of Jackson elects a new mayor.
With three days remaining for Early Voting, 4,394 have cast ballots – or 2,800 less in 2015.
NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM & WNWS.COM asked each of the five candidates their thoughts about the low turnout, and how is this affecting their campaign?
Scott Conger – “Hopefully it means people are taking their time to get informed on the facts. There is still plenty of time for them to cast their ballot.”
Jimmy Eldridge – “We’re taking nothing for granted, but we’re expecting a good turnout on election day.”
Vicky Foote – “The first seven- or eight days, I was at Early Voting all day, but with the turnout, I figured I should stay at home and call voters. People know who they are going to vote for when they arrive to vote.”
Mark Johnstone – “This race is unlike any other … the winner must get 50 percent of the vote plus one additional vote to win. We are at a tipping point in our city that will impact us for decades to come, and that’s why everyone’s vote is so important. I believe it’s just PLAIN WRONG for our city not to prosper and grow – continuing with business as usual.”
Jerry Woods – “Our campaign is being optimistic and working even harder … We (had) a Friday blitz at key intersections to encourage early voting.”
