The title Marcus Sabata carries remains the same, but he takes a step up in responsibilities as assistant general manager of the Jackson Generals, the defending Southern League Champions.
Sabata replaces Jason Compton, who re-signed to become the executive director of the West Tennessee Healthcare SportsPlex.
“You don’t replace 19 years of experience,” Sabata said, “But we have a great staff, and I’m surrounded by good people.
“The (Arizona) Diamondbacks are fantastic to work with, and we are excited about our home opener, Wednesday.”
The Generals – the Southern League’s Double A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks – will face the Chattanooga Lookouts at 6:05 p.m., at the Ballpark at Jackson.
Jackson (2-3) opened the season in Jacksonville.
No stranger to baseball, Sabata, 48, a native of Garden City, Kansas, served as general manager of the Garden City Wind of the Pecos League of Independent Baseball, before taking a position with the Generals in 2018.
The promotion calendar is full, and the Generals jump right in Thursday with ‘Dollar Night.’
“Dollar tickets, dollar popcorn, dollar hot dogs, dollar beer and dollar soda,” Sabata said, “That will be followed by Saturday … we’re going to be giving away one-thousand replica championship rings from the reigning Southern League champions, Jackson Generals.
“We’re excited about it and we hope to see you at the ballpark.”
