The Madison County Sheriff’s Office announces the dedication of “Mapes Hall” at the Madison County Jail in honor of longtime public servant Tom Mapes.

Although Tom recently retired, he has remained a steadfast supporter of the staff at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the jail.

In recent months, Tom made it a personal mission to ensure that our correctional officers and jail staff received the recognition they deserve, especially during Correctional Officers Week 2025, when he helped organize several heartfelt appreciation events for our team.

Because of his unwavering commitment, humble service, and deep respect for those who work behind the walls of our facility, we wanted to recognize him in this lasting and meaningful way.

Sheriff Julian Wiser shared:
“Tom has always been someone who sees the people behind the badge. His efforts to lift up and honor our correctional staff have left a lasting impression, and naming this space after him is just a small token of our appreciation.”
