On July 3, 2017, the Madison County, Tennessee Grand Jury indicted Brenden Tyler Burns, then 24 years of age, of Jackson, Tennessee, for First Degree Murder, Murder in the Perpetration of Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery, Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon By a Convicted Felon.
The indictment stems from an incident that occurred on August 9, 2016, wherein Burns, in an attempt to rob him at gunpoint, shot and killed Special Agent De’Greaun “Dee” Frazier. Special Agent Frazier was operating in an undercover capacity in an attempt to purchase $975 worth of cocaine and heroin from Burns.
On October 7, 2019, in Madison County, Tennessee Circuit Court, Division III, the Defendant entered a guilty plea to Murder in the Perpetration of Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery, Attempted Especially Aggravated Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon By a Convicted Felon and received a total effective sentence of Life Without the Possibility of Parole.
Shannon Frazier, widow of Special Agent De’Greaun Frazier, stated the following:
“Our family is grateful that a resolution has been reached in Dee’s murder case. Though closure may never come for us, we believe we can begin to move forward knowing that the person who took him from us will spend the rest of his life in prison, forced to think about his actions on August 9, 2016. We miss Dee every day and hold dear to our memories.
Thank you to the TBI and District Attorney Jody Pickens for your endless fight for justice. And, to our family, friends and the people of Tennessee who have prayed for us and loved us through our loss, we are eternally grateful.”
General Pickens stated, that, “On August 9, 2016, Special Agent Frazier got up that morning thinking about how he could make the State of Tennessee safer not just for his family but for every one of its citizens. He lost his life because the Defendant cared more about money than he did about the life of a fellow human being.
It is my sincere hope that the Frazier family can move forward from this incident and find some semblance of peace.”
