On January 28, 2019, the Madison County, Tennessee Grand Jury indicted Jamauri Ransom, 21 years of age, of Memphis, Tennessee, for Murder in the Perpetration of Aggravated Robbery and Aggravated Robbery. The indictment stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 15, 2018, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the Marathon gas station located at 2655 North Highland.
In that incident, Ransom robbed Cardierre Miller at gunpoint as Miller attempted to sell him marijuana. During the robbery, Ransom shot and killed Kevin Minter who attempted to come to the aid of Miller. Kevin Minter rode with Cardierre Miller to the gas station.
On September 11, 2019, after a two-day trial, a Madison County jury convicted Ransom of all counts.
On November 4, 2019, Ransom was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Roy B. Morgan, Jr., to serve a sentence of Life with Parole in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
Under the law in Tennessee, Ransom must serve 51 1/2 years in prison before he is eligible for release.
General Pickens stated, “The citizens of Tennessee do not have to be concerned with being victimized by Jamauri Ransom as he has been removed from society for most if not all of the rest of his life. Let this sentence serve as a notice that law enforcement will be relentless in its pursuit of those who scheme to commit violent acts upon other members of the community.
“Eventually those who commit these violent acts will be caught and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney General Lee Sparks and investigated by the Major Crimes Unit of the Jackson Police Department.
