COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say an 86-year-old man has been shot and killed after he pointed a gun at officers.
WSMV-TV ( ) reports three officers were searching for the man during a welfare check Thursday. Columbia police said the man left his home armed with guns and threatened to kill himself. When they found him, he stepped out of his vehicle and raised his gun. The officers opened fire.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers were injured.
Investigators are now working to identify the man.
Police said the three officers were put on administrative leave with pay while the investigation continues.
