Carbon-monoxide poisoning was apparently the cause of death of a man and two dogs discovered yesterday in Haywood County. The 25-year-old Oklahoma man and the two animals were found inside of a car at I-40’s Exit 52 yesterday (Tuesday) about noon.
Authorities found the man unresponsive in the car which was parked on the eastbound on-ramp. They believe he and his dogs died hours earlier.
The key to the car was in the “on” position but the motor was not running. The release from the sheriff did not say if the car had run out of gas.
Investigators say they found no evidence of foul play.
The sheriff identified the victim as Joseph Warren Cottrell III, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
