Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies uncover stolen items while serving warrant

A warrant being served by members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department last Saturday, led to the confiscation of a mountain of stolen items and one arrest.

“We were looking for a person of interest in another case and given permission to come in (house),” said John Mehr, Sheriff of Madison County, “(Deputies) saw the merchandise involved in other cases, and it turns out it came from around eight other counties in West Tennessee.

“The last several weeks and months we’ve been having break-ins of people who were attending funerals of family members.”

Items include firearms, knifes, savings bonds, antiques, baseball cards, prescription drugs and jewelry.

Mehr said one person is in custody, one is on the run, and he believes others are involved.

“A lot of the victims are from out of state,” Mehr said, “Other individuals have not reported a theft, and if if you are looking to claim the stolen property – you will have to describe it.”

Mehr said if someone is a victim outside Madison County, they need to contact their local Sheriff’s Office or Police Department.
