JACKSON Tn - (August 28, 2014) On Thursday evening the swearing in ceremony was held for the 5 incoming Jackson Madison County board members. Bob Alvey, David Clifft, George Neely, Dave Bratcher, and Joe Mays were all re-elected for four-year terms. AThe board is right in the middle of implementing a new 5-year Strategic Plan. The plan includes early Pre-K, 3rd grade Reading Intervention, Middle-School Academic Academy, and a Technology component. George Neely said "Right now the board has some things they have to work through like improving staff moral and he added "we have to see more trust between the staff, central office, and board members". David Clifft said, "I think we have a really good board and I am proud to work with them. We definitely have had some bumps in the road the last year, some things probably could have been handled better but all we can do is move forward and try and do better." "I would like to see us communicate better between us on the board and the central office with faculty and the public" added Clifft. Clifft said he is very interested in pursuing a rezoning plan which he believes will save the system money and move children to schools closer to their own neighborhood. Jim Campbell says the board will be looking at some of those areas Clifft is talking about like, the staff shortage at the start of school, improving communication, and building comsensus in the community about how the future JMCS system delivers education. Campbell said "that will include a lot of community involvement". The Jackson Madison County School 9-member Board is on a 4-year term with rotating elections every two years.
