JACKSON, Tennessee – According to a press release from Steven Aldridge, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communication at Union University – the Union University men’s golf team has announced its signing class for the 2021-22 season. Gray Campbell (Humboldt, Tenn.), Timonthy Pinkston (Franklin, Tenn.), and JJ Zimmer (Jackson, Tenn.) will join Union this fall as freshmen.
Union head coach Ryan Chandler said, “I am very excited about our freshmen class on both the men’s and women’s teams. All five newcomers have an extreme amount of competitiveness and work ethic that is only going to make us better. I am looking forward to our season and what they can accomplish together.”
Campbell, a 5-foot-8 freshman, was homeschooled and played four years of golf for Crockett County High School. He helped lead his team to back-to-back region and district championships, as well as back-to-back third place finishes at state. Campbell was named second team All-West Tennessee as a sophomore and junior and first team as a senior. He also qualified for the Tennessee Junior Cup as a senior.
Pinkston, a 6-foot-3 freshman, prepped at Franklin Road Academy where he played four years of golf and baseball. He helped lead his team to one district title and two region titles. Pinkston and his team also posted a pair of third place finishes in the state tournament. Pinkston was named Tennessee All-State in golf in 2021. Off the course, Pinkston was named to the Dean’s List once and the Head’s List three consecutive years.
Zimmer, a 5-foot-11 freshman, was homeschooled and played his high school sports at Crockett County. He played golf, soccer, basketball, and ran cross country. Zimmer won the 2019 Tennessee State Title in golf. He holds the course record of 59 at the Humboldt Golf and Country Club.
