Letter from Dr. Eric Jones announcing his resignation as superintendent of Jackson-Madison County Schools.
“It is with a grateful heart that I say THANK YOU for allowing me to serve as the Superintendent of the Jackson-Madison County School System for the past two years. It has been an unparalleled experience to be a part of the community in this way.
We have made great progress, but I know there is still much work to be done. However, I no longer believe I am the best person to lead the JMCSS. There is a fundamental divide between what I see as my role as superintendent and what a majority of the board believes it to be.
Without the freedom to lead, a leader’s purpose is lost. For this reason and others, I am stepping aside. My last day as superintendent will be June 30, 2019.
I am very proud of the hard work, dedication and trust in the process of our faculty and staff during my two years and the resulting improvement in student performance and other areas.
I am thankful for their willingness to believe and have faith in the vision we have for the district. I completely understand and accept the range of emotions that people may feel as a result of this decision. Our community loses if we start down a path of finger pointing and divisive politics.
I hope and pray that my decision will challenge the ENTIRE community to be more positively involved than ever in the educational future of ALL students for the sake of this community.
Though I am stepping down as superintendent, my family and I will continue to be a part of this community and supporters of all efforts to advance the Jackson-Madison County System, our students and our faculty and staff.”
