Kirkland Cancer Center milestone – ‘We look forward to the next five years’

Gina Myracle, executive director of the Kirkland Cancer Center, had reason to celebrate when she addressed the West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees during their monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

“We’re celebrating five years in the community,” Gina said, “We’re extremely excited, because we’ve accomplished so much during that five years. When we built the center, it was all about the building, now it’s all about the people … the physicians, the staff that takes care of the patients in the building.”

The Kirkland Cancer Center first opened in December, 2013.

Its radiation therapy has seen an increase of 13,000 treatments to 23,000 treatments per year through 2018.

“Our Medical Oncology Clinic – we started out five years ago with 4,700 visits, and this year we will see 27,000,” Gina said, “Our chemo infusion area – that’s one of our largest growth areas, we’ve seen a growth of about 170 percent.

“We’ve gone from 9,000 treatments a year to about 25,000 this year.”

Gina, a 39-year employee with West Tennessee Healthcare, said the Center’s highest volume in one day has been 137 patients in chemotherapy – with access to 44 chairs.

“Our pharmacy volumes have gone up over 3 million doses a year,” Gina said, “We’re (also) going to renovate our Infusion Pharmacy by putting in Robotic technology this year.

“It’s the only place in Tennessee that will have that, and we look forward to the next five years.”
