Julian Wiser sworn in as new Madison County Sheriff

Julian Wiser was sworn in by Judge Roy Morgan Jr. as the new Sheriff of Madison County on the north lawn of the Madison County Courthouse, Wednesday.

“It’s a profession … a calling,” Wiser said, “We’re in it for the right reasons – to make our community better.

“I just want to thank my family, thank God, my supporters, everybody that is here today who took time out of your day today to come to be here today for the ceremony.

“Most of all, I want to thank my beautiful wife (Julie). (With a) 26-year career in law enforcement, tough times and she has been there to pick me up, dust me off and get me back in the game … I can’t say enough great things about her.”

Wiser also applauded those in attendance who have influenced his career in law enforcement.

“Very positive role models,” Wiser said, “I thank every one of you. I look forward to serving as Sheriff of Madison County, working with everybody that’s here to make Madison County stronger.

“The way we’re going to do that is, we’re going to work together. We’re going to have a sheriff’s department that works with the county commission, courts, the community, so the stronger Madison County benefits all of us here, today.”

After 25 years with the Jackson Police Department, Police Chief Julian Wiser announced his retirement from the department on Jan. 7, 2022, to campaign to become the Republican nominee for Madison County Sheriff in the May 3, 2022, primary.

As Police Chief, Wiser was instrumental in the implementation of a policing concept called Blue Impact, which combines the concepts of intelligence-driven, community-oriented and concentrated policing, using data, intelligence and other resources to reduce crime.

Blue Impact concentrates on enforcing the law on drug dealers, gang members and other violent offenders. Along with enforcement, Blue Impact also concentrates on building stronger community partnerships to reduce crime and address other community issues.

Wiser served the majority of his Jackson Police Department career in the Special Operations Division. He started as a K-9 officer and advanced through the ranks, reaching Division Commander of Special Operations, which includes managing the Tactical Unit, Gang Unit, Canine Unit, Aviation Unit, Bomb Unit, Hostage Negotiators and Metro Narcotics.

Wiser also served with the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Marshals Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigations as a Task Force Officer during his career.

Besides his 26 years in law enforcement, Wiser also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 25 years and have two sons, Blake and Parker.
