JPD – new technology leads to arrest of murder suspect

The Jackson Police Department arrested a subject wanted for a Homicide in Illinois.

It was the Jackson Police Department’s use of a new technology, Flock Safety Camera Systems, which alerted officers to a vehicle reported stolen out of Chicago and involved in a Homicide. In partnership with the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Flock Safety Camera System alerts Law Enforcement of Stolen vehicles, Amber/Silver Alerts, Wanted Persons, Sex Offenders and other public safety notifications.

The Flock Safety Camera System is a LPR system (License Plate Reader) that captures information on vehicles.

July 2nd around 10:15 p.m., the first day of operation, the Flock camera indicated a hit on a Silver Acura bearing Illinois tag CY2614, as stolen. Dispatch verified the tag and it came back as a wanted vehicle for a Homicide.

Jackson Police Officers responded locating the vehicle in the area of Sycamore and South Highland Avenue. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of L. Dale Jamieson Drive at South Highland and took the occupants into custody without incident.

Illinois State Police were notified of the arrest. According to Lt. Chestnut of the Jackson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Illinois State Police commended the officers of the Jackson Police Department involved in apprehending this Homicide suspect.
