From the Jackson Police Department –

Officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a report of a shot being fired at the Old Hickory Mall at 2021 N. Highland Avenue around 10:45 a.m., today.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that the shot was an accidental discharge.

Eight juveniles were inside the mall when one of them accidentally discharged a firearm he was carrying inside his pants. The juveniles ran from the mall and drove away in a black SUV.

Officers with the Jackson Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop shortly after the juveniles entered the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop for officers and a brief pursuit ensued.
Officers were able to get the vehicle stopped in the area of Evergreen Street near Park Avenue.

Charges of Evading, Weapons Violations, and Narcotics charges are pending at this time. No injuries were reported.
