Joint collaboration of JPD, U.S. Marshals lead to arrest of man wanted for murder

From the Jackson Police Department –

The United States Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, which includes officers from
the Jackson Police Department, attempted to arrest an individual, at 235 Crocker Street Jackson TN., wanted for an Active Murder Arrest Warrant from the State of Connecticut.

Task Force Officers were attempting to apprehend Glenn Pettway who was currently out on bond from a 2018 murder; officers were attempting to locate and apprehend Pettway for an active murder warrant from May 28, 2022.

On June 1st at approximately 5:15 P.M., members of the United States Marshals Two Rivers Violent
Fugitive Task Force located Pettway at 235 Crocker Street and attempted taking him in custody for this Active Murder Arrest Warrant.

The members of this fugitive task force were not able to apprehend Pettway before he barricaded himself inside the residence. Prior to Pettway fleeing back inside the residence, officers observed him in possession of a handgun. Task Force members also obtained information that a 9-month-old infant was inside the residence with Pettway.

A young female, identified as the mother of the infant, had exited the residence prior to Pettway barricading himself inside.

In an effort of resolving this incident in the most peaceful manner possible, the Jackson Police Department’s Incident Command Team, which include officers and members of the Hostage Negotiations Team, SWAT Team, Bomb Unit, and Criminal Investigations Unit, were activated.

In addition, personnel from Jackson Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and Jackson Energy Authority were on scene at the Incident Command Center.

On multiple occasions during the negotiations process, Pettway stepped outside the residence holding the infant while pointing a gun in the direction of the officers on the perimeter.

After several hours of intense negotiations, Negotiators secured the release of the 9-month-old infant without incident or injury.

Personnel with Emergency Medical Services verified the welfare of the infant prior to the infant’s release into the custody and care of the mother.
