MADISON CO (May 6, 2015) – “The decision is based solely on the fact that I have moved out of my district.” Â County Commissioner and Chairman of the Commission Mark Johnstone will announce his resignation at the May 18 County Commission meeting.

Johnstone faced off against incumbent J.T. Dunbar in a Republican Primary and then ran against Pam Carter Betler and Thomas “Bubba” Cook in a General Election. He has served as chairman for three terms of office.
During his time of service Johnstone said, the county has faced many challenging obstacles. Â I am proud of my service and the accomplishments said Johnstone. Â IÂ feel like I have been a good steward, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve. Â Johnstone added, to every thing there is a season and although this one is over at some point in the future there will be other opportunities. I am gone for now but I am not out.

Commissioners will also have to accept the resignation and then accept resumes to fill the seat in District 9 until an election can be held for the position.
